Chapter Books

Chapter Books are a great choice for emerging readers. They are like potato chips - who can stop at one?

I have written many fiction - and non-fiction - chapter books. Some are out now and more are on the way!

Craftily Ever After Series

This is a new series of chapter books I wrote under the name "Martha Maker" (thus realizing my childhood dream of having a pseudonym!). They are for emerging readers - kids who are beginning to read on their own - and are adorably illustrated by Xindi Yan. And they're all available in hardcover and paperback!

Emily Adams, Maddie Wilson, Bella Diaz, and Sam Sharma are eight-year-olds with one special thing in common: they love to create. They each have unique talents, too! Emily is great at engineering, constructing and building; Maddie has an eye for fashion, fabrics, and sewing; Bella is a gadget guru and a computer whiz; and Sam is a gifted artist. Together, these four crafty friends dream up new projects to design, build, and create and through their experiences, they’ll learn how to handle various obstacles at school and in their everyday eight-year-old lives.

Arnold and Louise Series

Arnold is a large black bear. He's thoughtful and careful.

Louise is a small brown-and-white chipmunk. She's loud and unpredictable.

They have nothing in common.

They are the best of friends.

Arnold and Louise is a series of chapter books that I wrote and Chris Chatterton illustrated. They are great for emerging readers (and also terrific for read-alouds).
